TEACHING & MENTORSHIP

Kyle Hutchins’s teaching centers on performance in the expanded field, integrating fundamentals, improvisation, and creative practice. Working across classical, jazz, and experimental traditions, he emphasizes collaboration, risk-taking, and the development of individual artistic voices.

PHILOSOPHY

Despite the risk of failure, make the thing that only you can make. Safe work disappears; honest work endures. My teaching emphasizes fundamentals, curiosity, and collaboration, encouraging students to develop individual voices through both structured study and exploratory practice.

GUEST TEACHING & RESIDENCIES

Hutchins has presented residencies, masterclasses, and lectures at over 50 major institutions worldwide including Stanford University, CalArts, New York University, UCLA, McGill University, University of British Columbia, University at Buffalo, Michigan State University, Arizona State University, Conservatorio di Musica Santa Cecilia (Italy), Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (Portugal), Hanyang University (South Korea), and The Midwest Clinic, among others.
